FAQ
1. When should I book with Latch?
As early as possible—most families book during pregnancy because openings are limited.
2. Do you accept insurance?
Latch accepts the insurances listed on the Services page; however, not all plans will cover lactation services at 100%, and coverage varies by policy. Families must check with their insurance provider to confirm benefits. Concierge packages include a flat concierge fee, and Crystel provides a superbill for the billable portion that you may submit for possible out-of-network reimbursement.
3. What is included in the concierge packages?
Multiple visits, ongoing guidance, oral-function assessments, gut-health support, red light therapy, text/phone access, postpartum household assistance, and help through teething, solids, pumping, weaning, and returning to work.
4. What areas do you serve?
Our IBCLC team serves families across Central Iowa, including Des Moines, Ames, Ankeny, Waukee, Winterset, Huxley, Boone, and surrounding areas.
5. Can you help if I’m formula-feeding or combo-feeding?
Absolutely. Latch supports breastfeeding, bottle-feeding, formula feeding, and combination feeding—with expertise in ingredients, sensitivities, fortification, and feeding schedules.
6. What happens during a prenatal visit?
We discuss pumps, bottles, sizing, flange fit, feeding goals, and early newborn behaviors so you feel confident and prepared before your baby arrives.
7. Why do I need a meet-and-greet before booking?
This free meeting allows you and Crystel to make sure the concierge model is the right fit and ensures you’re choosing the best package for your goals.
8. What do postpartum visits include?
Latch assessments, tongue/palate/oral-function evaluation, maternal comfort and supply assessment, pumping guidance, personalized plan creation, and hands-on troubleshooting.
9. Do you only help with breastfeeding?
No—Latch supports every feeding journey: breastfeeding, bottle-feeding, formula feeding, pumping-focused feeding, and medically complex feeding situations.
10. Can you help with tongue ties?
Yes. We perform detailed oral-function assessments and collaborate with pediatric dentists, ENTs, OTs, PTs, CST providers, and myofunctional therapists to ensure complete care.
11. Will you still help me if we reach our feeding goals early?
Yes! You still receive ongoing support, teething guidance, return-to-work planning, solids/baby-led feeding help, and weaning support.
12. Do you offer in-home visits?
Yes. Latch offers home, office, birth center, and virtual appointments depending on your location and package.
13. Can my spouse attend visits?
Absolutely—partner involvement helps with confidence, troubleshooting, and long-term feeding success.
14. What if I’m struggling with supply?
Crystel specializes in low supply related to hormones, thyroid, vitamin deficiencies, tension, pump strategies, and oral-motor issues. You’ll receive a tailored plan based on your unique situation when you purchase a feeding package.
15. Do you work with medically complex babies?
Yes. Latch collaborates with pediatricians, ENTs, GI specialists, and therapists for babies with reflux, prematurity, airway concerns, weight gain challenges, oral-motor delays, and more.
16. Do I need to bring anything to visits?
Just yourself and your baby—we provide everything else, including bottle nipples, flanges, oral tools, and teaching materials.
17. How do I get started?
a. Schedule a free meet-and-greet with Crystel, choose your package, and reserve your exclusive spot based on your due date. Crystel only accepts 4-6 families per month for highly intentional care.
