Allow me to introduce myself!

Updated: Dec 19, 2022

About your lactation professional

My name is Crystel. I am a registered nurse and international board-certified lactation consultant. I have always wanted to work with mothers and babies since I was a young girl. Mothers milk is perfect for her baby. I have been a nurse since 2009 in the Des Moines area. I realized that there is not enough in-home help with breastfeeding or pumping and wanted to fill that need. I am a wife and a mom to two beautiful children, Jack (9) and Elizabeth (6).

I went to Kaplan University and Excelsior College based out of Albany, NY for my nursing degree. I later attended LER (Lactation Education Resources) for my IBCLC training. My history with lactating mothers began several years ago when I had an internship with a midwife in Des Moines. I attended several home births and assessments of lactating women. I also worked at an OB/GYN clinic and at a busy Des Moines Hospital as a postpartum RN.

I also have a love of photography, I have a studio in Dexter called CC Photography. I also love to travel with my family, be outdoors, and go swimming. My mornings usually start with coffee with lots of creamer, french vanilla of course, and end with bedtime stories. Then, charting or editing pictures. I'm always researching and planning new ideas for both of my small businesses.

I don't want anyone to feel lost in this process. Becoming a parent is HARD, breastfeeding is rewarding and sometimes hard, pumping is hard work, bottle feeding is hard work. Is it all rewarding? YES!! Let's talk about goals, let's look at that latch. Let's make sure baby is adequately gaining weight and having wet diapers and stools. You can do it!

I'm here to help!! I will collaborate with your care providers to keep them up to date as well.

Do you REFUSE to recommend formula?

No. I understand that feeding is a biological need. If the baby needs to supplement and human milk is not an option or not available to them, of course formula is necessary. This is the choice of the parent. I am here to help, encourage, and educate when requested.
